About Us
Paradox Conservatory for Performing Arts was born from a shared dream that founders Benjamin Junious-Washington and Marlon Washington carried as artists, educators, and creative leaders. Throughout their careers, they experienced firsthand the transformative power of the arts while recognizing opportunities to create spaces where artistic excellence, accessibility, and belonging could coexist.
The name Paradox reflects both their philosophy and their partnership. Benjamin and Marlon approach artistry from very different perspectives and have come to recognize those differences as one of the greatest strengths of their marriage and creative collaboration. Where one gravitates toward structure, strategy, and educational design, the other is guided by musical intuition, creativity, and artistic expression. Rather than competing, their seemingly opposite approaches complement one another, consistently producing stronger ideas than either could create alone. They believe that same paradox exists throughout the arts—that professional standards and genuine community, rigorous training and joyful creativity, artistic excellence and human connection can all thrive together.
Together, they founded Paradox to build more than a theatre company. Their vision is to cultivate artists, strengthen communities, and create meaningful artistic experiences that inspire people to grow both on and off the stage. Through professional productions, conservatory-style training, and innovative community partnerships, they are committed to developing exceptional artists and compassionate leaders.
